  • I have something very vital to disclose with you, but I found it difficult to express myself here, since it's a public site.Could you please get back to me via my direct email(susanwalphonsus001@gmail.com) for more details.
    Have a nice day,

  • Greetings Liz,

I'm Mike McQueen, teacher librarian and founder of http://www.GettingBoysToRead.com. Like many school districts, we are in a financial crises. Our school board recently proposed to eliminate ALL 20+ middle school teacher librarians and also cut all 90+ elementary schools to half time. Since we are the biggest district in all of Colorado, we worry this will cause other districts to follow suit.

We launched an online movement and are going to do our best to put up a good fight. If possible, please visit our Facebook page and "Like" us http://www.facebook.com/SupportSchoolLibraries . Adding a positive comment and sharing with your friends would help our morale as well. The board finalizes the budget soon so your timely support would be greatly appreciated!

    Sincerely,

    Mike McQueen

  • A am an adjuct professor of library science, teaching library methods and library science student teaching. In both of these courses I stress the power and importance of collaboration and integration. I am also an elementary school media specialist with Hilliard City Schools (we won the NSLMPY award in 2006!) I really feel that collaboration is essential for our students to get the most effective eduational experience! But I also know first hand that it can be very challenging to persuade teachers of the inherent benefits. I guess I am hoping that there will be a secret code or magic word that will open all the doors that are roadblocks and all my teachers will be begging to collaborate with me!
I liked the tone that many of the folks on LM_Net had about this topic, understanding the difficulties collaboration can seem to be for teachers, instead of just complaining! I like the idea of a group that will discuss this topic; maybe together we can discover a variety of strategies we can share with others that will make collaboration a less threatening word to some of the teachers we desire to work with!
OK, I rambled on long enough,
    Liz
  • Hi Liz,
Welcome to the BCC group! I'd love to know more about your interest in the group.
What is the status of school librarianship in Ohio? Do you teach school library courses at the college level?
    Best,
    Judi
