  • Greetings Jo-Anne,

I'm Mike McQueen, teacher librarian and founder of http://www.GettingBoysToRead.com. Like many school districts, we are in a financial crises. Our school board recently proposed to eliminate ALL 20+ middle school teacher librarians and also cut all 90+ elementary schools to half time. Since we are the biggest district in all of Colorado, we worry this will cause other districts to follow suit. We launched an online movement and are going to do our best to put up a good fight.

If possible, please visit our Facebook page and "Like" us http://www.facebook.com/SupportSchoolLibraries . Adding a positive comment and sharing with your friends would help our morale as well. The board finalizes the budget soon so your timely support would be greatly appreciated!

    Sincerely,

    Mike McQueen

  • Hi Jo-anne,
Thanks for the vote of confidence! I really am a bit frazzled thinking about writing up two assignments/week for the next 3 weeks!
I am even more worried because I am registered for Joanne Degroot's Part 2 of the EDES 501 course and I don't think I can handle all these assignments AGAIN! It's really been eating up my family time!
I popped onto your librarypbwiki! I love your Voicethread of the water cycle. I am totally going to have my students do that...I teach weather in gr.5! Thanks for the idea!
Can't wait to meet you on the 28th and "destress"!

  • Hi Jo-Anne,
I spent most of my Sunday working on this last post. This course has really drained me and I'm a bit concerned about the follow up course (I signed up before we started this one!). I hope it doesn't move at the same pace or I'm going to "freak-out"! We've had a few people in our course getting feedback from the "Experts of Web 2.0" too. Congratulations...that's pretty exciting!
My blog address is http://heathersyearn2learn.blogspot.com if you wanted to check it out. I'd be interested in your opinion!
Are you going to be at the SAG conference for MSLA on the 28th?

  • Hi Jo-Anne,
Actually I've been a teacher with Pembina Trails for over 10 years now! I'm also a Fort Richmond graduate too ('88)! I am running a MYRCA club at my school and realized that I also recognized your name from the MYRCAblog. I haven't got my students on the blog yet as we are practicing with my wiki I set up for the EDES 501 course. It's my first course for my TL diploma at the U of A. It's A LOT of work as I have 2 small children and I teach gr.5 at 0.83 (I took the one day off in the 6-day cycle to help me work on my course). Since you are almost finished this course, I'd love to hear any good advice on course choices etc. as I continue on. Are you taking the follow up course to EDES 501?
    Heather
  • Hi Jo-Anne,
I don't know how I stumbled upon your name but I noticed you were from Winnipeg and then I remembered that Chantal F. had mentioned you were taking courses with the U of A as well.
I am not a TL with PTSD (yet) but I spent a day "shadowing" Chantal at VW as it has become my PGM and I found this great program at U of A. I noticed from your blog post that you are also taking the EDES 501. I just wanted to say "hi" as I have just become a member of this Ning as well!
