  • Greetings Sharon,

I'm Mike McQueen, teacher librarian and founder of http://www.GettingBoysToRead.com. Like many school districts, we are in a financial crises. Our school board recently proposed to eliminate ALL 20+ middle school teacher librarians and also cut all 90+ elementary schools to half time. Since we are the biggest district in all of Colorado, we worry this will cause other districts to follow suit. We launched an online movement and are going to do our best to put up a good fight.

If possible, please visit our Facebook page and "Like" us http://www.facebook.com/SupportSchoolLibraries . Adding a positive comment and sharing with your friends would help our morale as well. The board finalizes the budget soon so your timely support would be greatly appreciated!

    Sincerely,

    Mike McQueen

  • Hi Sharon,
Here is the link for my blog, The Shanksalot Crew. (my little punny joke on my name at school).

My class 5/6 is up and REALLY running with it - just spent 20 minutes going through all the comments they have posted since school let out yesterday! They were supposed to pick a classmate's reading response entry from the personal blogs and respond to it. They are just loving this and the parents are really impressed. It will be a great way to do announcements for the class in the future, I think, as they get used to it at home.
The other class is just working on their avatars - I only see them once a week so I'll have to figure out a way to get them some more computer time.

I am so glad you and Kelly showed us all this stuff - I would really have been too apprehensive to try it on my own. Actually, I just posted a Shelfari bookshelf and several of the students wanted to try to make their own yesterday, so if I can make sure it works without an email address, I think that will be their next project.

    Have a great Easter!

  • Sharon,
It was hard to leave the warm temperatures but I'm back and working on how to work this! Thanks for the Shelfari insert on your blog, I've added a shelf to our class blog. We have a link to Kelly's Bobcats now, so hope to have some writing exchanges between the two schools.
