I have been a librarian for nearly 40 years. I have always loved this profession but it has NEVER been as exciting as it is today. There is something new to learn every day. No wonder I love wandering around in this Web 2.0 world! "All that is gold does not glitter, not all those who wander are lost." J.R.R. Tolkien

  • Greetings Jacquie,

I'm Mike McQueen, teacher librarian and founder of http://www.GettingBoysToRead.com. Like many school districts, we are in a financial crises. Our school board recently proposed to eliminate ALL 20+ middle school teacher librarians and also cut all 90+ elementary schools to half time. Since we are the biggest district in all of Colorado, we worry this will cause other districts to follow suit. We launched an online movement and are going to do our best to put up a good fight.

If possible, please visit our Facebook page and "Like" us http://www.facebook.com/SupportSchoolLibraries . Adding a positive comment and sharing with your friends would help our morale as well. The board finalizes the budget soon so your timely support would be greatly appreciated!

    Sincerely,

    Mike McQueen

  • I was sorry I couldn't attend your session. I enjoy your posts on LM-Net.
  • Thank you for your ideas to my questions about flat earth? falttened earth? I was just musing and thought -ok - concept is economically based - but how can we bring the ideas around into sound pedagogy.... Web 2.0 has the potential for social fluency. Your quote rings warning bells for WEb 2 environment.
  • Jacquie, Love your portrait, love your quote! I'm an old soul in a brave new world...not sure what some of the new technologies mean or how to use them, but I'm having fun exploring. Do you know how to navigate in Second Life? I think I'm registered, enrolled, whatever, but I don't know how to do anything there.
