Name of Your School / Library / Organization:
I''m the teacher librarian at Redwood High School in Larkspur (Marin County), Calif., USA. I have been a teacher for almost 40 years (first started teaching right out of college in 1969) and got my first job as a librarian in 1975 after completing my master's in library science and my teaching credential. Worked mostly in parochial schools until 1991 when I got my first public school job at Castro Valley HS. I've worked at Redwood since 1999 when I replaced Lesley Farmer as the librarian. I've been involved in my state school librarian's association for many years, serving as VP for Educational Technology and as of November serving as the President-Elect of our Northern Section. Was recently on the committee which arranged for the IASL conference at UC Berkeley which is in my backyard and got to show off my library to visitors from across the globe.

Greetings Tom,
I'm Mike McQueen, teacher librarian and founder of http://www.GettingBoysToRead.com. Like many school districts, we are in a financial crises. Our school board recently proposed to eliminate ALL 20+ middle school teacher librarians and also cut all 90+ elementary schools to half time. Since we are the biggest district in all of Colorado, we worry this will cause other districts to follow suit. We launched an online movement and are going to do our best to put up a good fight.
If possible, please visit our Facebook page and "Like" us http://www.facebook.com/SupportSchoolLibraries . Adding a positive comment and sharing with your friends would help our morale as well. The board finalizes the budget soon so your timely support would be greatly appreciated!
Sincerely,
Mike McQueen
