Name of Your School / Library / Organization:
I am a professional storyteller and teacher librarian at MacArthur Elementary School in Binghamton, NY. It is a city school with much diversity and a wide disparity of incomes. Our emphasis is strongly on Character Education, so once a month, I tell a story to all 600+ students and staff in an assembly on the character trait of the month. I did my online master's in School Library at Mansfield University in Pennsylvania, and am also elementary K-6 certified. Best-known for my one-woman show, "A Visit With Laura Ingalls Wilder," I was also co-president of School Librarians of the Southern Tier-East. My proudest accomplishment is the origination of the Annual Countywide Poetry Recitation for Children in my region; we are celebrating our 19th season!

Greetings Lonna,
I'm Mike McQueen, teacher librarian and founder of http://www.GettingBoysToRead.com. Like many school districts, we are in a financial crises. Our school board recently proposed to eliminate ALL 20+ middle school teacher librarians and also cut all 90+ elementary schools to half time. Since we are the biggest district in all of Colorado, we worry this will cause other districts to follow suit.
We launched an online movement and are going to do our best to put up a good fight. If possible, please visit our Facebook page and "Like" us http://www.facebook.com/SupportSchoolLibraries . Adding a positive comment and sharing with your friends would help our morale as well. The board finalizes the budget soon so your timely support would be greatly appreciated!
Sincerely,
Mike McQueen
