Name of Your School / Library / Organization:

I'm a librarian at an all boys' boarding and day school. outside Asheville. In addition to the neat things we do there, I also love children's books and literature in general. I read more YA and boys' books that I would in another job, but it's all good, as the boys say. Before I retire, I'm trying to help get my library and school into the 2.0 world.

  • Greetings Jane,

I'm Mike McQueen, teacher librarian and founder of http://www.GettingBoysToRead.com. Like many school districts, we are in a financial crises. Our school board recently proposed to eliminate ALL 20+ middle school teacher librarians and also cut all 90+ elementary schools to half time. Since we are the biggest district in all of Colorado, we worry this will cause other districts to follow suit.

We launched an online movement and are going to do our best to put up a good fight. If possible, please visit our Facebook page and "Like" us http://www.facebook.com/SupportSchoolLibraries . Adding a positive comment and sharing with your friends would help our morale as well. The board finalizes the budget soon so your timely support would be greatly appreciated!

    Sincerely,

    Mike McQueen

  • Hi Jane,
I just sent you a friend request. My site is right up your alley! Would you consider writing a guest blog entry at some point? You have a unique school that fits my site!

  • Jane,

You are located near my native home Greenville, South Carolina. Although I live in Houston, Texas, I married a Texan, my roots are deep in the heart of Greenville, South Carolina; my grandmother is still alive and living in Greenville; she is 94 years old. I wrote a children's book entitled "Meet You in the Soup;" the setting is Greenville and the theme is the love between a little girl and her grandmother, of course, it is the story about my grandmother and me. It is "still" unpublished, at this point. However, I plan to pursue self publication.
Oh, how I miss the beauty of the seasonal changes! Enjoy! I invite you to be my friend.

    Sincerely,
    Cheryl E. Hill/Reading Queen Bee
