Name of Your School / Library / Organization:
I am the coordinator of library services for the Napa Valley School Library Consortium, one of 14 school library consortiums in the country that includes neighboring districts, the county office of education and local parochial and private schools. My pet project is Athletes as Readers and Leaders which is featured on the California School Library Association website and in the Association of American Publishers 2008 summer newsletter. I sit on the California's Recommended Readings in Literature List committee and I am a Napa City County Public Library commissioner. I believe that we are in the midst of a major library transition which will change how we access information and how we staff libraries. I have two long haired mini- dachshunds that I love dearly, 3 small grandsons; one daughter. one daughter-in-law veterinarian and a teacher-coach son!

Greetings Kate,
I'm Mike McQueen, teacher librarian and founder of http://www.GettingBoysToRead.com. Like many school districts, we are in a financial crises. Our school board recently proposed to eliminate ALL 20+ middle school teacher librarians and also cut all 90+ elementary schools to half time. Since we are the biggest district in all of Colorado, we worry this will cause other districts to follow suit. We launched an online movement and are going to do our best to put up a good fight. If possible, please visit our Facebook page and "Like" us http://www.facebook.com/SupportSchoolLibraries . Adding a positive comment and sharing with your friends would help our morale as well. The board finalizes the budget soon so your timely support would be greatly appreciated!
Sincerely,
Mike McQueen

Just came across the Athletes as Readers and Leaders project--very nice!
I'm a skateboarding children's author whose Rolling for Reading program delivers books to kids in need, via skateboard. My brother's in Sebastopol, so I'm up your way now and then (partly for the skatepark!).
Cheers,
Barb
