Hi All,
I am starting a new job in September. I have been asked to create a description of what I would like teachers to do while they are assigned to the library for one period per day. Does anyone have experience with this?
Thanks!

The teachers are expected to assist in the library. My question was to ask if anyone else had experience with successfully assigning tasks to teachers. I know this often turns into a "I will use the time to grade papers or take care of my personal business" time. I am trying to head it off.

If you can, arrange them to go through the nonfiction section in the library that pertains to there speciality. Science teacher - through the 500s, etc. And have them look for dated books in their area. Then have them search for books that they think would be a great addition to their area (I know I would welcome someone looking for cellular biology books that are in a readable range). They would leave their recommendations with you to check for suitability etc. I would also have them going through the DVD selection, helping in their subject area in old textbooks (they can tell you if the science textbook that has been gathering dust for 5 years will be used again...)
Some teachers appreciate shelving fiction (Just so they can see what we have...they often take out books they want to read).
Give them a weekly schedule.... week 1, browse shelf in subject area; week 2 , search for books, teacher resources, etc....
I like the idea of having teachers recommend titles from their content areas because this is a collection that has not been updated in a long time. The previous librarian spent lots of money for reference books but not enough [in my opinion] on fiction and nonfiction.

Are the teachers there on 'supervision duty' (simply watching the students)? or have they been assigned library time?
