Want my aide back!

Do to budget cuts, I lost my aide and now I find myself struggling doing tons of things all at once. Simple things I used to delegate to her now has to be squeezed between lessons, check in/out, shelving books and managing AR. I know I will survive and it's just establishing a routine but for now....I'm exhausted! She used to help me so much...but what can I do???

  • Yes! I do as well! The library is going to pieces because I cannot teach 6 classes a day and shelve books by myself. I have tried training 5th graders to shelve but they can not leave classes during the day and can only help during their recess time. That is great but most of the time I have to go behind them and redo things. They get in a hurry and do not ask questions. They can't help it, they are just kids. I am also 'in charge' of our guided reading room which was dumped on me. I am still standing with my mouth agape about this one. I believe that most administrators do not have a clue what we really do as librarians. Sorry, just venting!
  • How about parent helpers or older students? We have at least 3 parents helping in the library shelving and doing simple tasks. Some of the High School students enjoy helping as well.
