  • Greetings Nancy,

I'm Mike McQueen, teacher librarian and founder of http://www.GettingBoysToRead.com. Like many school districts, we are in a financial crises. Our school board recently proposed to eliminate ALL 20+ middle school teacher librarians and also cut all 90+ elementary schools to half time. Since we are the biggest district in all of Colorado, we worry this will cause other districts to follow suit. We launched an online movement and are going to do our best to put up a good fight.

If possible, please visit our Facebook page and "Like" us http://www.facebook.com/SupportSchoolLibraries . Adding a positive comment and sharing with your friends would help our morale as well. The board finalizes the budget soon so your timely support would be greatly appreciated!

    Sincerely,

    Mike McQueen

  • Hi Nancy,
I'm slowly making progress. I'm on the CASL Ning also. I'm ready to Skype with the CASL Board Tuesday afternoon with a stereo headset and microphone - Su and I did a test run Saturday night.

The only thing that's not working is the RSS feed using Feedblitz for the CASL Blog information to come directly into my computer but I'll continue to work on it.

  • Yes Nancy- I did see that you posted my entry. Now, I'd better hurry up and write some more. Been enjoying working with lots o' teachers this week- voice thread, databases and persuasive essays, all that and more!
  • Hi Nancy,
Thankfully we are only a two library district so the district job is not so bad. However, I am finding it challenging to stay focused on library programs with all the classes, being DAAC chair and implementing a mentoring program which includes mentoring 5 new teachers! It's getting easier as the school year settles in and routines come back. I am really excited by opportunities unfolding and the reactions of the kids as the new books arrive.
  • Nancy-
I feel the same way - you are so knowledgeable and such a professional. Did you see our Call for Presentations email? We'd love to have you submit something. Best - Shelley
  • Hi Nancy!
Just joined! Wanted to let you know that when I tried to connect via Nance's message, it wouldn't let me connect. I had to go back to your message to sign up. The error message indicated that the link couldn't be passed on through another message and used. Does that make sense?

  • Thanks for replying. I was on a task force that created our districts ET/IL standards a few years ago and it just went by the wayside. What do you hear about new/revised info lit standards coming (from ALA I believe)? Also, have you heard anything about the state library correlating the IL standards with the standards in each of the content subject areas? I wish they would hurry and do that. I think it would help what we do to finally "click" with the content teachers.
  • Okay, my antenna went up. What software do you use to evaluate info lit?
  • Welcome Coloradoan! It is nice to have another of us- I'm a Longmont'r!
