I'm in my fourth year as a library media specialist in the K- 5 school I've taught in for 10 years. The first year of my new job was more than difficult- changing perceptions that the media center was all about collaboration and less about dropping the kids off for book check out and an extra prep took its toll on me. I wanted to go back to the 4th grade position I loved so much! I had to constantly remind myself that I wanted to leave the safety of 4th grade to use my Educational Technology degree with more kids than just my homeroom. I stuck it out because I knew library media was a good fit for me and the way I like to work. I mean...how cool is it to be able to work with information all day long and turn the kids on to it?! I quickly completed my ALMS certification and this year is rockin' in my media center!

Greetings Lorin Rose,
I'm Mike McQueen, teacher librarian and founder of http://www.GettingBoysToRead.com. Like many school districts, we are in a financial crises. Our school board recently proposed to eliminate ALL 20+ middle school teacher librarians and also cut all 90+ elementary schools to half time. Since we are the biggest district in all of Colorado, we worry this will cause other districts to follow suit. We launched an online movement and are going to do our best to put up a good fight.
If possible, please visit our Facebook page and "Like" us http://www.facebook.com/SupportSchoolLibraries . Adding a positive comment and sharing with your friends would help our morale as well. The board finalizes the budget soon so your timely support would be greatly appreciated!
Sincerely,
Mike McQueen
