Name of Your School / Library / Organization:

I'm a grad student at Sam Houston State University. I have been a fourth grade teacher for three years now. I lived between Juarez and El Paso most of my life. I attended UTEP for my undergrad where I received a Bachelor's in fine arts for my double major in creative writing and Spanish Lit. I really enjoy reading. I find great joy in realizing hours have passed and I haven't even noticed because I've been so caught up in a book. I feel a bit discouraged right now because there is so much going on in life. Between work (and the looming TAKS), school, some seemingly possible economic stability because of cutbacks on education and an avalanche of reality falling all around me it has been hard. I'm going to buckle down and get going on all the things that need to get done. On a lighter note, since this is an area for people to get to know me, I will share some random information. I drink grande non-fat one and a half Splenda lattes. I drive a hybrid. I am a daughter, sister and aunt. I am also a teacher, friend and traveler. I like tattoos. I have tattoos. I want more tattoos. I am a hard worker and procrastinator. Music can change my mood instantly. One of my favorite movies is Dogma. Random enough? Hey it shows who I am. Happy learning!

  • Greetings Lili,

I'm Mike McQueen, teacher librarian and founder of http://www.GettingBoysToRead.com. Like many school districts, we are in a financial crises. Our school board recently proposed to eliminate ALL 20+ middle school teacher librarians and also cut all 90+ elementary schools to half time. Since we are the biggest district in all of Colorado, we worry this will cause other districts to follow suit. We launched an online movement and are going to do our best to put up a good fight. If possible, please visit our Facebook page and "Like" us http://www.facebook.com/SupportSchoolLibraries . Adding a positive comment and sharing with your friends would help our morale as well. The board finalizes the budget soon so your timely support would be greatly appreciated!

    Sincerely,

    Mike McQueen
