  • Greetings Leslie,

I'm Mike McQueen, teacher librarian and founder of http://www.GettingBoysToRead.com. Like many school districts, we are in a financial crises. Our school board recently proposed to eliminate ALL 20+ middle school teacher librarians and also cut all 90+ elementary schools to half time. Since we are the biggest district in all of Colorado, we worry this will cause other districts to follow suit. We launched an online movement and are going to do our best to put up a good fight.

If possible, please visit our Facebook page and "Like" us http://www.facebook.com/SupportSchoolLibraries . Adding a positive comment and sharing with your friends would help our morale as well. The board finalizes the budget soon so your timely support would be greatly appreciated!

    Sincerely,

    Mike McQueen

  • The computer lab is separate from the library and is shared by 11 intermediate classrooms, so I don't manage the lab per se. I schedule the lab when I am working with students on research or other technology-based lessons. The library has 11 computers for student use, 4 of which are dedicated as "search stations". Students visit the library on passes to use the computers for class work and research. I monitor the students and help them in their use of technology. Students also visit the library during recess and use the computers for personal research or recreation. Of course we are automated, so I manage the Follett Destiny system that we use. We no longer have a building-based technology coordinator, so I am usually the first line of defense for staff or students when there is a problem with their computers or the teaching stations which include, DVD/VCRs, projection systems, sound systems, document cameras, and "thin client" virtual computers. I offer training on use of subscription databases, digital cameras, scanners, etc.

Does that cover what you need?
  • Hi Leslie,
I'd be happy to help you. I don't know how much help I'll be, but I will try. When do you need the answer?
