I am the library media specialist in a small K-8 public school in Somerville, Massachusetts. My passions (besides books) are Red Sox baseball and spending time at Cape Cod! I got my MLS from Simmons College in Boston in 2007 but have worked in the library field for almost 20 years.

  • Greetings Kim,

I'm Mike McQueen, teacher librarian and founder of http://www.GettingBoysToRead.com. Like many school districts, we are in a financial crises. Our school board recently proposed to eliminate ALL 20+ middle school teacher librarians and also cut all 90+ elementary schools to half time. Since we are the biggest district in all of Colorado, we worry this will cause other districts to follow suit. We launched an online movement and are going to do our best to put up a good fight.

If possible, please visit our Facebook page and "Like" us http://www.facebook.com/SupportSchoolLibraries . Adding a positive comment and sharing with your friends would help our morale as well. The board finalizes the budget soon so your timely support would be greatly appreciated!

    Sincerely,

    Mike McQueen

  • Hi Kim! Thanks for writing me. Everything is going the same as it always has - which is partly okay, and partly not okay. But whatever - that's life! I hope all is well with you! Tell joyce I said hi (or maybe I should just email her :) Hope you're having a great summer! ~melissa
  • Hi Kim! Just wanted to see how you were doing :) Long time no talk, hope all is well
  • Hello kim! I am very anxious and excited to hear how your new job in Somerville is going! Is it going okay so far? Is the commute killing you yet? I hope you are getting to see some of my old kiddos - I miss them...
  • Hi!! I just had a job interview for a position called "library assistant" but which was actually for an elementary school librarian. I think it was called "assistant" because it was both a temporary and a part-time postion, but there was nothing "assistant"-y about it. Anyway, I didn't get it, and I'm mad. There was only *one* other person who applied, too.
