Name of Your School / Library / Organization:

In the words of my students, I am a librarian who "finds a way to make a library more compatible to the student. . . . who facilitates us away from bad research habits and points us in the right direction to books and online stuff . . . . in a library that is comfortable for a student." Currently, I am focusing on 4 things: 1) learning about elements of green design as we look forward to a new library building; 2) identifying key luminaries, movers and shakers who are changing the landscape of library technology applications; 3) offering opportunities for teachers to team up with librarians to co-present research tips and strategies to students; and 4) creating digital collections. In addition to being a library director at a co-educational independent school for grades 7-12, I enjoy consulting work focused on youth services, library design, brain-friendly libraries and library-literacy connections. I moderate two book clubs at school so I've had lots of chances to delve into Stephanie Meyer's Twilight series and become a fan of John Green. I'm the school rep on the executive board of the Massachusetts Metrowest Regional Library System and will begin a term as a school rep on the ALA Campaign for America's Libraries Committee. I have served on the ALA Literacy Assembly and am a past president of the Massachusetts Library Association. I look forward to learning a lot from this great network.

  • Greetings Katie,

I'm Mike McQueen, teacher librarian and founder of http://www.GettingBoysToRead.com. Like many school districts, we are in a financial crises. Our school board recently proposed to eliminate ALL 20+ middle school teacher librarians and also cut all 90+ elementary schools to half time. Since we are the biggest district in all of Colorado, we worry this will cause other districts to follow suit. We launched an online movement and are going to do our best to put up a good fight. If possible, please visit our Facebook page and "Like" us http://www.facebook.com/SupportSchoolLibraries . Adding a positive comment and sharing with your friends would help our morale as well. The board finalizes the budget soon so your timely support would be greatly appreciated!

    Sincerely,

    Mike McQueen
