Name of Your School / Library / Organization:

I am a student in Information Resources and Library Science at the University of Arizona in Tucson. I plan to graduate in May of 2008 and work on a Native American reservation in Arizona. Because of the distances entailed, I am excited about this forum as a way to create a support group in the inforamtion profession and keep up with the latest trends. It will also be a wonderful place to share the Native American cultural aspects of library science. What a unique way to have ongoing callorboration and form new friendships!

  • Greetings Judy,

I'm Mike McQueen, teacher librarian and founder of http://www.GettingBoysToRead.com. Like many school districts, we are in a financial crises. Our school board recently proposed to eliminate ALL 20+ middle school teacher librarians and also cut all 90+ elementary schools to half time. Since we are the biggest district in all of Colorado, we worry this will cause other districts to follow suit. We launched an online movement and are going to do our best to put up a good fight.

If possible, please visit our Facebook page and "Like" us http://www.facebook.com/SupportSchoolLibraries . Adding a positive comment and sharing with your friends would help our morale as well. The board finalizes the budget soon so your timely support would be greatly appreciated!

    Sincerely,

    Mike McQueen

  • Your words are so kind. Thank you from my world and good luck in the wonderful new world you will create at a school very soon. Native school settings are challenging, but provide an exciting place to practice new knowledge. Good luck!
  • Welcome Judy. I hope you enjoy your LIS program and create a fulfilling career with Native American students and families.
