  • Greetings Deana,

I'm Mike McQueen, teacher librarian and founder of http://www.GettingBoysToRead.com. Like many school districts, we are in a financial crises. Our school board recently proposed to eliminate ALL 20+ middle school teacher librarians and also cut all 90+ elementary schools to half time. Since we are the biggest district in all of Colorado, we worry this will cause other districts to follow suit. We launched an online movement and are going to do our best to put up a good fight. If possible, please visit our Facebook page and "Like" us http://www.facebook.com/SupportSchoolLibraries . Adding a positive comment and sharing with your friends would help our morale as well. The board finalizes the budget soon so your timely support would be greatly appreciated!

    Sincerely,

    Mike McQueen

  • Thanks so much. Your rainforest is so cute! I think I've decided on doing a dots theme everywhere with wall decals(not allowed to paint) and hanging paper lanterns. That way, maybe it will span the vast age group I have. And I can add themes around it. Do you think that's a good idea? I found a modern dots fabric with lots of bright colors to use in the puppet theatre I'm making and for curtains on the other side. Also really like the funbrarian website. Have you done a scavenger hunt? I am new to AR too. It's crazy! What prizes do you give out for AR points?
  • Hi Deana,
I'm a teacher librarian & recently started a community based blog for getting boys to read - http://GettingBoysToRead.com. Please send me a friend request if you'd like to network, share ideas, and learn more about getting boys to read.

    Sincerely,
    Mike McQueen

  • Congratulations on the new position. This is my first year and I have total changed my library's floor plan. I too am waiting to decide what to do with the walls. I have some old pillow character wall hangings now, but I really don't like them. There are some pics of my library on my blog. http://timetorenew.blogspot.com/ Good Luck!
  • I use Pro. I think you could do the basic "talking" with the standard but you don't have all the flexibility. I would download the free trial and see what you can do. I also use Vegas video and a "chroma key" process on my clips to get them to move a bit more and do the backgrounds. Not all of it is done in Crazy Talk, just the facial animation.

  • I do the READ posters in Photoshop. I talk with the teacher about a theme/book they have in mind. If they have an idea I try and make it happen. If they don't I come up with something interesting and humorous for their poster. I use a good digital camera and shoot the main picture of the teacher with the book against a solid background to make it easier to cut out in Photoshop. Then I look for bakgrounds, photo elements, fonts, etc.. and layer it all together. No template!
