I have always loved libraries; in fact I used to arrange my Golden Books on my bed and make my mom check them out using a card system. I have worked in public libraries and for the past 15 years I have been the library tech in an elementary school . This is my first year as the library tech educator in the building. I am in the Teacher in Residence Program, along with starting the SLIL masters program at UCD, so I think I have a busy, but hopefully exciting year ahead. I have been married to my wonderful husband for 29 years, who still makes me laugh, and we have two terrific adult daughters. I was lucky to be born into a big, loving extended family that surrounded us all with a lot of support, which I hope we have passed on to the next generation.

Greetings Darcy,
I'm Mike McQueen, teacher librarian and founder of http://www.GettingBoysToRead.com. Like many school districts, we are in a financial crises. Our school board recently proposed to eliminate ALL 20+ middle school teacher librarians and also cut all 90+ elementary schools to half time. Since we are the biggest district in all of Colorado, we worry this will cause other districts to follow suit. We launched an online movement and are going to do our best to put up a good fight. If possible, please visit our Facebook page and "Like" us http://www.facebook.com/SupportSchoolLibraries . Adding a positive comment and sharing with your friends would help our morale as well. The board finalizes the budget soon so your timely support would be greatly appreciated!
Sincerely,
Mike McQueen

I wanted to let you know that MIT is running a nationwide, online contest to get kids to teach other SAT/ACT vocabulary through the power of user-generated flashcards. The goal is to build a resource that is free and fun to use. There will be a cash prize at the end and iTunes giveaways along the way. The event is hosted at Brainyflix.com, and full details are here.
If you know of any teachers/students who'd be interested, please let them know!
Thanks,
Jack
It sounds like you may be even more busy than me, though. Hopefully we can help each other have a great first class.
Welcome! I too am very excited about our fall classes and the opportunity we have to meet one another through this social network! I think it will be a great semester! Good luck to you as we get underway!
