  • Greetings Claire,

I'm Mike McQueen, teacher librarian and founder of http://www.GettingBoysToRead.com. Like many school districts, we are in a financial crises. Our school board recently proposed to eliminate ALL 20+ middle school teacher librarians and also cut all 90+ elementary schools to half time. Since we are the biggest district in all of Colorado, we worry this will cause other districts to follow suit. We launched an online movement and are going to do our best to put up a good fight. If possible, please visit our Facebook page and "Like" us http://www.facebook.com/SupportSchoolLibraries . Adding a positive comment and sharing with your friends would help our morale as well. The board finalizes the budget soon so your timely support would be greatly appreciated!

    Sincerely,

    Mike McQueen

  • Hi Claire~ That's great that the library commons model is taking off! When I move there, I think I'll swing by to check it out. I was just at a teacher job fair the other weekend, but that was competitive, too! About 400 people went! Quite discouraging, but I persevere. . .Hope the move to DC is coming along well!
  • Hi Claire,
I'm a teacher librarian & recently started a community based blog for getting boys to read - http://GettingBoysToRead.com. Please send me a friend request if you'd like to network, share ideas, and learn more about getting boys to read.

    Sincerely,
    Mike McQueen

  • I actually applied for a job at Loyola's Library Commons! With Debbie Poole--the Info Literacy position that was open last month. I didn't get far in the application process b/c I don't have any academic library experience & only graduate in August with my MLIS. But, it sounded like a really great work environment. How do you like the Library Commons?
D.C. is lots of fun, too. I'm sure you'll like it there, even if it's a little colder. . .
  • hi and an early welcome to the neighborhood! (DC)....it's a great area!
