Ok, right off the bat, I'm letting you know that I am neither a teacher nor a librarian. I hope I will be accepted by you anyway. I was a library clerk whose position was cut, as was that of the certified media specialist, at my prior school. I really didn't want to stay there so I became the Media Coordinator (parapro librarian) at my current school. They had also cut the certified position. It seems like I have been around libraries my entire life, though. I was a library asistant in high school, my first summer job was working for Denver Public Schools helping with inventories, and I have either been volunteering or working in a school library for the last 16 years. My degree is actually in Law Enforcement, if you can believe that. In my "past life," I have been a hospital switchboard operator, a paralegal, and a Navy wife (submarines). My guilty pleasure in life is 80's hair metal music and I have several teachers who chuckle at the thought of their "headbanger" librarian. I have two cats, Xander and Shadow, and like working in my butterfly garden and doing counted cross-stitch.

I'm Mike McQueen, teacher librarian and founder of http://www.GettingBoysToRead.com. Like many school districts, we are in a financial crises. Our school board recently proposed to eliminate ALL 20+ middle school teacher librarians and also cut all 90+ elementary schools to half time. Since we are the biggest district in all of Colorado, we worry this will cause other districts to follow suit. We launched an online movement and are going to do our best to put up a good fight.
