I am writing a grant proposal for the Improving Literacy through School Libraries Program.  Our proposal is to create a digital library for 6 middle schools and 1 elementary school in NYC that are very close geographically and all have a large ELL population.  We would have e-books, online databases and, even, online literacy programs.  There would be a space dedicated in one of the schools that is centrally located so students and parents could go there.  One of the main requirements of the grant is that the libraries are open during after school hours, weekends and summers so we want a space for that.  The space would also be for PD training and for parent and family workshops in literacy and technology.  A couple of questions:

-Would one server be sufficient or should we have a server at each school for this library?

-Are there any specific online databases and/or programs that you would recommend for the middle school level?

-Do you have any other advice for us in creating this project?
