Prior to 2010 we had a full time para educator and a full time teacher-librarian in each of its 12 schools. In 2010-11 para eds were removed from the library. The next year the paras were returned to the library and the teacher-librarians removed. Mid year I was returned to the library as the district librarian responsible for overseeing the library paras and the collections. I have been tasked with developing a vision for the district libraries. I am working on building trust with the paras who are afraid if TLs return they will be removed from the library again. It is an awkward situation. We should all be working together towards a common goal that includes fully staffed library in each school. Instead there is suspicion and finger pointing. I would appreciate any advice or suggestions.
