MP3 players for checkout?

I am considering purchasing MP3 players for the media center to have available for downloading books from our public library.  I am in a middle school so the Caliphone chunky players look too elementary for our cool tweens.  Any recommendations for cost effective/durable/easy to use MP3 players?  Do any of you have this available in your libraries?

    We circulate iPod shuffles and have a school  audible account.  It has worked well and they are always out.  Many of my relucant reeders are now reading thanks to this technology.
