Hello everyone! This is my first discussion as I am new to this website. I have 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders in the library for 30 minutes. I am wondering if anyone has any ideas on how to do a successful book review in collaboration with the computer teacher. I'm thinking they might be able to check author's websites, reviews on books, etc. Any other ideas?

Personally I think the best way to do a successful book review, if you are a 3rd, 4th or 5th grader, in collaboration with the computer teacher might be, letting them check out the author's websites, various reviews on their books and even some critics, where they can get out opinions and different views on the book you are about to writing a review on. I think it is very important for your students to develop their own opinions on books and maybe they should compare different books of one author, the language, the style of writing, the story board, etc. Maybe this is going to help them develop an independent style of writing reviews.
Have you thought of using Voicethread? It has collaboration written all over it. Your students will take to it quickly and it is a really nice tool for booktalks. Here is one by @kimwren http://voicethread.com/#u128686.b171151.i912725

I'm having my students make a PowerPoint Show, recording their voices reading the review. We're going to post the reviews on our eLibrary blog. You could also just have them create a Good Reads blog, or maybe even simpler, create a PRIVATE group and enroll them in http://thewww.goodreads.com social network, and have them list books they've read, and review them there...
For us, it started when a librarian friend submitted a book review of "Hatchet" to our blog, then we found a Youtube PPT-type video that reviewed the book, and it went from there.
