Library Media Coordinator Requirements

My supervisor has asked me to find the requirements different school districts have for their Library Media Coordinators -- degrees, certifications, etc. Our district had 25 elementary school libraries staffed by paralibrarians and 13 secondary school libraries staffed by Library Media Specialists, Teacher Librarians, and teachers working on library certification. The Library Media Coordinator provides training for them, creates selection lists for the elementary school libraries, works with principals on selecting library staff, and many other things.

  • Our district has 48 schools. Each school selects and purchases their own book and non-book resources. Each school has at least one media specialist. Their library media clerk (elem.) is part-time or full time, the library media secretary (secondary) is full time. The media supervisor monitors all selections as they are submitted to the media office. They also create the budgets for each fund for each school. They work with principals and all support departments as needed. The supervisor also has district responsibilities as assigned by directors and assistant superintendents. She/he works on facilities planning and usage as well as purchases for new programs or departments. Hope this helps.
