  • I didn't publish our HS FB page until administration had the opportunity to preview it. The only request they made was that I monitor any comments for appropriateness. My superintendent was very supportive. Students do not have access to FB in school, so it will be used from home as one more way to promote library services and literacy ventures. It went public yesterday and in less than 24 hours we have 62 fans. Once school starts I hope to officially roll it out to the students and staff. Thanks to all those who posted earlier, your suggestions were most helpful!
  • I have recently set up a FB page for my library.
    It's http://www.facebook.com/pages/Elk-Lake-High-School-Library/33356793...
I mentioned it to my principal & he liked the idea. Facebook is blocked at my school so I do everything from home. I try to post a few times a week and I'm still working on getting students to join.
  • I'm in the midst of setting up a page for our library and am looking for a good how-to article or blog post about decoding the whole Facebook settings universe. How do you keep all your actions from showing up on your wall? I just want the substantive actions to show up -- not the information that we've edited something trivial.
  • Our library has a Facebook page, and Facebook is not blocked at school. You can see our page here I love the idea of the drawing for gift certificates. We currently have 126 fans and are looking for more.
  • I have one too. It's at www.facebook.com/troylibrary Haven't yet introduced it yet to our students or admin....
  • We have one for our high school. In fact right now I'm running a contest to get students to "become a fan" by October 15.
3 names will be drawn at random to win gift certificates to Borders, iTunes and Starbucks. My administration is completely on board with it. We do have a school-wide policy that social networking sites are not allowed to be checked in school so joining our page needs to happen outside of school hours. I'm happy with the results and it is a way to reach high school students with library-related news. You're welcome to check out our page. We're Caravel Academy Library.
    • Suzanne,
Can you tell us more about the contest you had?
      Thanks!
    • Suzanne:
Can you post a link to your facebook page. I am thinking about creating one for my library.
      Thanks.
    • That looks great! I really want to do this, and having examples is really helpful. Thank you.
