Next school year, I plan to turn my library aides into a Library Advisory Council. I have two student aides for each class period (we have 8) so that will give me a total of 16 students (7th and 8th grade). My plans are to have them advise me with selection and programming. We have a common advisory period so I'll be able to pull them all together periodically and I've created a blog for them to make suggestions, too.
Does anybody have any suggestions or advice before I try this change? Has anyone attempted an advisory group before? Anything I should anticipate? I've been lurking on some public library web pages and stealing ideas already.
Any advice will be appreciated,
Kathleen

This is a wonderful idea.
I have a old column about using library advisory committees here:

There may be some take-aways for your student group in it.
All the best,
