Common Core Standards Initiative, Part 3

If you're following the progress of the Common Core Standards Initiative, you may know that Kentucky is the first state to officially adopt the Standards and recognizes school librarians as an important component of the implementation strategy (see "Kentucky First to Adopt Common Core State Standards Initiative", SLJ, 3/3/10).

AASL has also issued its position statement on the Standards --

"School Librarian call to action and AASL position statement issued on Common Core Standards"

The public comment period continues until April 2nd.

I think this is an awesome opportunity for those in our profession to have our roles as instructional partners recognized and utilized, especially for those whose administrators may not currently see them in that capacity.
