classroom videoconferencing advice

Hello I have 2 questions for you Web 2.0 people! I will be podcasting with 2 other teachers using Skype and a Smartboard. I need to purchase a Webcam. I am looking for recommendations for my purchase. I am also looking for videoconferencing etiquette recommendations and suggestions for making the conferences successful. I want to make the conferences more than just "pen pals" I want to go deeper and try to work either science or social studies standards also. I also thought it might be interesting to have an author visit all 3 schools at one time! Thanks! P.S I am a 2nd grade teacher soon to be Library Information Specialist!

  • Hello Mary

I am a new member but you may like to know me. I am just about to have a small animated film: "The Wizard of Alderley Edge" and five books of my own poetry published. September is the date I've been given. You might like to contact me if you would like a skype visit. If you go to my website: Google: JOSIE'S POEMS you will discover me. I hope you enjoy the poetry I have made available also.
  • Hi,

I've owned a number of webcams and am most happy with our Logitech Zeiss lens webcam for Notebooks. It comes with a little tripod so you can set up the camera away from the computer (using a USB cable). This way, I can show students more than just what's in front of my computer. I do cyber author visits this way. Besides "meeting" me in my own home, the kids can see my (messy!) office, my work in progress, my cat that wanders in and out...etc.

    • Hi,
Thanks for the recommendation. Where is the microphone - with the camera or part of your computer?
