We are implementing an AVID course at my high school for the first time. I know the course is highly structured but not curriculum specific, and I would like the library program to play a role. Has anyone made a good connection with the AVID program in your school, and if so, in what ways?

I worked very closely with my AVID teachers at my former HS. This fall I will be starting at a new school and will also be responsible for teaching AVID 9 (9th graders) in addition to my library responsibilities. In my district, there are a small number of TLs who also teach AVID.
AVID focuses:
Study Skills
Research Skills
college readiness
SAT prep
Organizational Skills
Cornell Notes (a core essential)
I created pathfinders on these topics and organized guest speakers and fieldtips to libraries, etc.

Be sure to visit the AVID site http://www.avid.org/intro.html
I hope this helps.
