Could some of you post your version of a library helper job application on this ning? I am having interested 4th and 5th graders fill out an application and take and alphabetizing quiz. The helpers will help shelve only E (everbody) and F (fiction) books. Th DDC is all mine! :)
You need to be a member of TLNing (teacherlibrarian.org) to add comments!
that sounds like an awsome way to encourage students to present themselves. Have you thought about struggling readers though? Sometimes the rewards they get from helping and organizing can far out weigh a couple of mishelved books. I also think it would enforce the love for books they may not already have, and allow them to "browse" through the literature without feeling intimidated. Just a thought.
I started a "Library Club" for interested 4th and 5th graders this year and it's been wonderful. In addition to shelving, they have also been instrumental in doing book displays, decorating the library, helping organize and promote our "Pennies for Peace" drive, and served as the presenters at our own school's version of "Children's Choice Awards". They kids have had lots of fun and have developed some wonderful skills!
This is something I want to do this year. How often does the club meet? Did you have training as a part of club meetings? Do students apply to be members or did you just put it out there and take anyone who was interested?
Trish,
Thank you for posting your documents. I'm a new and overwhelmed library tech in a small school...with too many things to do and not enough (paid) hours to do it in! Working long hours just to keep it all manageable. Just this week, I'm going to turn to students for help with my stacks and stacks of books and list of things to do so your information came in handy!

Thank you everyone - I am new to my position this year and appreciate the forms, input, and feedback that I could read through.
I hope you're having a great year!
Sincerely,
