We do a basic overview of everything (web based and print) and then send the students on a scavenger hunt. We have prizes for the first 3 to finish the scavenger hunt correctly. It's fun!
I was searching for some ideas too and found your question. We typically do a scavenger of sort, but last year, we added different stations for students to visit. In each station, we created a short video (less than 2 minutes) and then an activity - find a certain book on the shelves, search for a specific item in the library, use a specific database, visit our editing room, etc. It is fine, but we want it to be better.

Try looking for lessons, interactives, etc. at Thinkfinity. Information literacy, media literacy, evaluating websites, copyright and copyright friendly, etc. would be general topics that you could use with 9th graders.
